Miles of thread
and thousand of nails are the basic elements of Kim
Kamens' newest body of work. At a distance, these black and
white images appear to be charcoal or pencil drawings, but upon
closer inspection, the labor intensive madness of the artist is
revealed. Each "drawing" is composed of miles of sewing thread
bridging nail heads to create a highly rendered image. She
connects these points repeatedly until she achieves the desired
tone and form. The thread is one contiuous strand and can be
10-12 miles long in some cases.
